Volunteering in Romania

Volunteer in Romania and experience life in Transylvania

Volunteer in Romania with Projects Abroad and get the chance to live and work in Transylvania while supporting local communities. You’ll stay with a local host family, giving you first-hand insight into the culture, and plenty of delicious home-cooked food.

Support early childhood development Volunteering with Children in Romania (for teenagers) and gain practical teaching experience by helping school students with English. When you’re not working, explore Romania and experience life in Transylvania. Visit grand palaces in Brasov, or follow a trail of ancient myths and stories by visiting Dracula’s Castle.

Throughout your experience of doing volunteer work in Romania, Projects Abroad staff will be there to provide 24/7 support if you need it.

Lucy D

I feel that my experience has been, overall, very rewarding although emotional at times and highly beneficial for the children. Certainly in that the time we were able to devote to them and the sort of activities we did with them were so well received and would not have been available to them had we not been there.

Sarah W

I made memories and friends that will last me a lifetime and I gained incredibly valuable experience in the journalism field. How many people can say they were published abroad by the time they were 18?

Hannah C

Although I only worked on a single site, the work was varied and I learnt a great deal in a short space of time.

Tami M

Suddenly, something else caught my eye. It wasn’t flat or orange or sharp. It was a human tooth, a molar with roots attached. After days of picking up pottery shards, this was a real find!

Pawena N

While I had a chance to contribute to the learning of the students, this experience also broadened my perspective and exposed me to diverse groups of people and many new adventures.

Map & Location

Located in eastern Europe and famous for the forests of Transylvania and extraordinarily well-preserved medieval structures, Romania is the definition of “picturesque”.

Experience centuries-old traditions in a safe and welcoming country where tourism is popular. Spot stunning historic castles and churches, unique architectural styles, and the breathtaking Carpathian Mountains. Don’t miss Bran Castle, built in the 1300s, said to be the home of Dracula.

Brasov

In the Carpathian Mountains of Transylvania is a city steeped in medieval charm and natural beauty. Home to 250,000 people, Brasov is a stunning mix of Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque architecture, evident in its well-preserved Old Town.

Extremely well connected due to its central location, Brasov has an airport, 44 bus routes, and one of the busiest railway stations in the country. It has a temperate climate with warm summers and cold winters. Also, we’re pretty sure there aren’t any vampires!

Your Arrival Made Easy

When you arrive at your respective airport, a member of Projects Abroad staff will be there to meet you. You can find more detailed information on arrival airports, orientation, and visas on our Romania Arrival Procedures page.
